is doing a series on "A Day in the Life of a Police Officer". Today they did Cleveland, Ohio. Thought this may be of interest to some folks here since we have had so many discussions about this. Vantro I think this may be in your neck of the woods.

Ty for posting. I missed it. Was it a fluff piece or an honest look at Cleveland police? Tamir's mother just met with Hillary this weekend. I guess it went well. Going to look up the Today show segment. Thanks again.

I think it was a strong effort to present the police side......it's television, after all. It's good PR for law enforcement. Would like to know what you think. I admit I am half watching, typing, and getting dressed.

What a fluff piece!!!! That is NOT a typical example of a Cleveland police officer!!! Not even close! I have never encountered a friendly officer. They rarely smile & many seem put out when you ask for help or try to report a problem. If that man was not putting on a show for the camera the Cleveland leaders need to give this man serious praise for doing his job & not acting as though he is doing ppl a favor for doing his job!
BTW the Tamir Rice incident was the cherry on top of many serious problems with Cleveland police. 2 DOJ reports condemning their performance & use of deadly force starting in 2004 & another in 2014 which stated that nothing improved & has actually gotten worse.
Violence towards police has dropped to it's lowest in 2 decades, yet police actions towards ppl has intensified.
A sign posted for at least 3 years in a courthouse which said "Due to the price increase of ammo do not expect a warning shot"!!!! In a courthouse!!!! Wth?!
The Brelo case.
On and back to the Tamir case the veteran officer had already cost the city over $100,000 for putting a woman in a choke hold & throwing her to the ground even though she was the person who called police for help! The officer was once again overzealous in his actions & once again assumed he knew the situation. Meanwhile the real offender got away.
The rookie in the Tamir case was fired from another city which declared him unfit for duty because he kept breaking down in training & cried.
Several officers were indicted earlier this year for being on a notorious heroin dealer's payroll.
Many other issues, but this kinda sums it up.
Oh yes, I can imagine being a good cop in Cleveland is tough when your superiors & co- workers are unfit or lazy! The cops are responsible for ppl not trusting them. I am not black, i am a home & business owner, upper middle class & I do not trust Cleveland police overall. Anytime I have ever needed them they have let me down, so why bother with them at all? I moved out of Cleveland because of the crime, but also because police were useless & numb. It won't get better until the leaders of Cleveland acknowledge all problems including their own failures.

Thanks Vantro. I had a feeling this was PR of the highest degree and the Today Show should present all sides. I am going to write a letter to Today asking them to show interviews with local people....in depth as they did with the police to give another perspective.
I hope local Cleveland people have a reaction to this piece.
