Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point] academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

“The explanation is that that occurred over 50 years ago,” Carson said in response to a question from BuzzFeed News in a media availability after a rally here. “Have you ever played that party game where you whisper into the person’s ear and then they tell it, and by the time it gets all the way back around it’s a different story? That’s what we’re talking here.” Carson was referring to the game of “telephone.”

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

Ben Carson Is The New Sarah Palin.

1. The outsider status....
Both aspired to the White House while being political outsiders.

2. The charm and appeal...
Both have attracted a huge, passionate following.
Many people loved that Sarah Palin is attractive, plain-spoken, and relatable.

3. The confusion about history...
A couple of years ago, Sarah Palin said that Paul Revere had warned the British. She doesn't quite seem to grasp the First Amendment to the Constitution, either.

And Ben Carson is confused about American history too. He said this in a long Facebook post:
[quote888]"Every signer of the Declaration of Independence had no elected office experience."[/quote888]

Which, of course, is totally wrong. (He amended the post to say "federal elected office experience.")He's not fresh on his world history either. He believes the Egyptian pyramids were silos for grain and gun control caused the Holocaust - both theories that have been completely debunked by scholars.[/quote888][/quote888][/quote888]

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

4. The doubt about climate change...
Both of them say climate change exists but only because of of normal cyclical planetary temperature changes. And that we have to do something about it. And that's about it.In her interview with Katie Couric when she was a VP candidate, Palin said this:
[quote888]"You know there are - there are man's activities that can be contributed to the issues that we're dealing with now, these impacts. I'm not going to solely blame all of man's activities on changes in climate. Because the world's weather patterns are cyclical. And over history we have seen change there. But kind of doesn't matter at this point, as we debate what caused it. The point is: it's real; we need to do something about it."[/quote888][/quote888]

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

5. The evangelical beliefs....

Palin's and Carson's religious beliefs are similar, even though their faiths are different.

6. The stints as pundits....

Both have been commentators for Fox News -- Carson for one year, and Palin for five.

7. The attacks on the media.

Despite their own media involvement, Palin and Carson agree that the media suffers from liberal bias.Palin has criticized the news media many times, often with the nickname "lamestream media."

Exactly, shiny! His views on linking same sex marriage to bestiality/pedophilia, prisons prove being "gay" is a choice,  his pyramid statement, Obamacare is worse than slavery etc., are just so totally bizarre.

It does make you wonder that with all this... why does CNN and Politico feel the need to dig so deep to find out about his behavior as a child or whether he was offered a scholarship/appointment from a General.

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

West Point has no record of Carson ever applying, being offered a scholarship, or being accepted.

Technically, costs of attending West Point are covered — there are no full scholarships.

Acceptance comes after a process that starts with a nomination from a member of Congress or a military official.

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

... In his 1990 autobiography, “Gifted Hands,” Mr. Carson writes of a Yale psychology professor who told Mr. Carson, then a junior, and the other students in the class — identified by Mr. Carson as Perceptions 301 — that their final exam papers had “inadvertently burned,” requiring all 150 students to retake it. The new exam, Mr. Carson recalled in the book, was much tougher. All the students but Mr. Carson walked out.

“The professor came toward me. With her was a photographer for the Yale Daily News who paused and snapped my picture,” Mr. Carson wrote. “ ‘A hoax,’ the teacher said. ‘We wanted to see who was the most honest student in the class.’ ” Mr. Carson wrote that the professor handed him a $10 bill.

No photo identifying Mr. Carson as a student ever ran, according to the Yale Daily News archives, and no stories from that era mention a class called Perceptions 301. Yale Librarian Claryn Spies said Friday there was no psychology course by that name or class number during any of Mr. Carson’s years at Yale .

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

... Then: "Three years ago I had an endowed chair bestowed upon me....I’m proud to say that part of that $2.5 million came from Mannatech."

Now: He now denies that any of the money for the endowed chair actually came from Mannatech. "He simply got things mixed up," a campaign spokesman said. That seems a little unlikely since Carson made this claim in a prepared speech given at a Mannatech sales conference ...

Then: "I'm suggesting we do what we need to do to secure the border whatever that is....You look at some of these caves and things out there one drone strike, boom, and they'd gone."

Now: "It was quite clear what I was talking about. That drones are excellent for surveillance" ...

It's actually better than a scholarship because not only is your schooling paid for but you also collect a paycheck.  It's basically the same thing as a scholarship, in the military world they call it an appointment.

Carson has said he didn't apply for the appointment so there wouldn't be a record of it.

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

Carson Plummets in Polls Amid Reports He Didn't Stab Anyone.

DES MOINES (The Borowitz Report)—New reports indicating that Ben Carson might not have actually stabbed anyone during his youth have sent the retired neurosurgeon plummeting in the latest Republican Presidential polls.

Carson supporters, reeling from the news that their candidate’s past might have been devoid of stabbing, have deserted his candidacy in droves, suggesting that Republican voters viewed Carson’s stabbing as a key part of his résumé.

Indeed, a recent University of Minnesota poll showed that a full third of Carson supporters singled out “his stabbing experience” as a top reason for supporting him for the nation’s highest office.

In Iowa, where Carson was the front-runner before the non-stabbing bombshell hit, voters like Carol Foyler, of Des Moines, expressed dismay and disillusionment that the retired doctor might have fabricated his stabbing exploits to make himself more appealing to Republican voters.

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

This came from FAUX Spews, so take it for what it's worth.
On Ben Carson:
A West Point spokesperson told POLITICO that that it was "certainly possible" that Carson spoke with the general, and the four-star may have even encouraged the teenager to apply, but the school has a rigorous entry process that would not have allowed Westmoreland to guarantee anyone entry. Furthermore, there are no "full scholarships" to the academy.

So much for "I'm an honest outsider". Carson is now officially one of "them" a lying politician!

Bernie Sanders:
“You know what’s more important to me about Ben Carson, and I think what’s more important to the American people?”
Ben Carson, as I understand it, wants to abolish Medicare. How’s that? … So you’ve got millions of old people whose entire health-care existence rests on Medicare. He wants to get rid of it. That’s of some significance to me.”

Re: Ben Carson admits fabricating admission to West Point

A Wall Street Journal article notes that Ben Carson apparently claimed to have been named "most honest student" by a professor of a Yale class that never existed.
