Need, not sure if you're talking to me but I was referring to him telling GS yesterday morning that ISIS is contained. Maybe it's not denial, maybe it's him making light of the situation to make himself look better. Who knows with him.
As far as Benghazi, he was still denying terrorism well after he knew the truth.
I don't think Obama is in denial about ISIS nor do I think he is making light of of the situation. Like I said he is one of a handlful of country leaders who has taken action against ISIS. Our country under Obama has been active in trying to do something about ISIS. What is it you expect him to do about ISIS?
What has he done?

Caribou, whatever he's done, it isn't working.

Really Caribou? We have a department of Home Security that does much to thwart terrorism on our soils. Obama has sent troops over there to train military in the region so they can fight ISIS. Obama has formed the coalition of countries who are now fighting ISIS with airstrikes. What would you have him do?

Exactly. So basically he's just leading the world in the war against ISIS, but screw Obama it's all his fault. I swear they do not miss an opportunity no matter what the issue is.

I am so disgusted by the right. After every mass shooting they decry the left for "politicizing" the shootings re: gun control. Yet any time there is an act of terrorism around the world, the right does the EXACT same thing by screaming that refugees are all terrorists and that Obama doesn't take ISIS seriously and it's all his fault. Give me a break.
When they speculated on Benghazi they were jumped on and an investigation to the tune of 5 million dollars plus is still ongoing. But they are cautious this time and are also pounced on for lying to the public or being naive. Do you guys hear yourselves?
Obama was talking about the advancement of ISIS into other areas, and the fact that Sinjar had been retaken so the forward progress was contained. But I'm sure this soundbite will be beaten to death by the right in an effort to paint Obama as stupid and all refugees, be they men, women or children, as possible threats and people to fear. Fox News will have a hey day with little regard for the victims.
If there was ever a time for solidarity, unity and joining together in a time of grief, this is it.

My apologies Caribou, I mixed up my C names. I should have directed my comments to Campbell, but I'm sure that is obvious.

Most Americans oppose boots on the ground, so there is very little else Obama can do besides keeping the country secure with the help of Homeland Security, and continuing efforts to support the rebels in the ME. He is doing what the majority of his country wants him to do, which is why his approval ratings are so high.

Great post shiny. (although you quoted Cambell and spoke to Carribou. LOL they both kind of say the same things when it comes to President Obama, so I can see how easily that can happen).
The President can not say everything he knows about a situation. There is much classified info at this point, I expect. The lessons learned from Benghazi probably run deep.
President Obama is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't by the right. It really gets old.

ISIS can't be destroyed completely, and it's obvious you can't use diplomacy to defeat crazy radicals. But according to some experts, Obama could "defeat" or "neutralize" ISIS by ending its ability to control significant territory and reducing it to a small terrorist group with limited reach. Whatever he's doing now isn't working. He needs to do more, but in a measured way……..more aircraft, more special ops and loosen the restrictions he imposes upon them, and he needs to be more committed and serious about mobilizing support from the Sunnis in Iraq and Syria. For cripes sake, if he just keeps doing what he's doing, ISIS is going to expand its reach beyond Syria into Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia..........
But this President seriously thinks ISIS isn't gaining strength and climate change is our biggest threat.....dude is delusional!

Anything we (the coalition does) will only be effective while we are there bearing down on them. The minute we let up and leave they will re-emerge and continue on. Do you think we should enter into perpetual military action and accept that we will be there forever?

Sam,
I think it is sick the way conservatives are using the tragedy in Paris for political sound bites. I wish I could say that I surprised at their behavior but I can't.

What happened in Paris is just plain evil & it breaks my heart. I've been lucky to visit Paris a couple of times & I always thought it was the most beautiful European city by a mile.
All acts of terrorism are horrific. There were also attacks in Beirut and Baghdad, and the Russian plane crash. These terror attacks are becoming more frequent and more widespread. Obama's strategy isn't working, so the efforts have to be expanded. The borders need to be secured. And, no, there is nothing immoral about a country closing its borders in order to protect itself. At some point common sense has to prevail.

I get what you're saying, but both parties are guilty of exploiting tragedies. But to demand politics be left out of the conversation is only to hide the problems. Politics is how we effect change. To say you're "disgusted" & to think that tragedies should remain "apolitical" is to say that everything is fine and nothing needs to be fixed.

I really think what Canada is doing right now is the best and only strategy for helping the refugees but also looking out for our own country's self-preservation.
Our PM has announced that he will continue on the timeline to accept 25,000 refugees, but he will not back down on the refusal to allow our troops or fighter jets to participate in any more bombing or activity in Iraq or Syria. Enough is enough. IMO we should never ever have been there in the first place and we need to GTFO. Nothing anyone is doing is helping anything there. All we can do is offer refuge for those who are lucky enough to escape with their lives.

If some want to blame Obama for what happened in Paris, they may want to think back to whose actions gave birth to ISIS in the first place.
It wasn't Bill Clinton and it wasn't Obama.
The group originated as Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad in 1999, which pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda in 2004. The group participated in the Iraqi insurgency that followed the March 2003 invasion of Iraq by Western forces.
If Cheney and Bush hadn't been drooling at the mouth to take out Saddam, Iraq would still be a secular state.
Saddam killed many of his own people, but I don't know of any Americans or Europeans for that matter who were killed by his "weapons of mass destruction".
Yes, I know Saddam was evil, but as the saying goes, the devil you know....

Yes, I know Saddam was evil, but as the saying goes, the devil you know....
When Bush left office, he left a stable Iraq mostly due to his surge of troops in 2007 that ended a Sunni insurgency threatening to tear the country apart. Obama himself admitted as much………"We're leaving behind a sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq." All Obama had to do was leave a residual military force to maintain internal stability & counter any threat that would arise from radicals. Sadly, Obama never understood the importance of resolve and force for preserving global peace. So, he continued with softball policies to try & mitigate anti-American sentiments. Once again, he underestimated the "evilness" of Islamist radicals. His most serious lapse was thinking that the Arab Spring would bring about democracy in the ME.
Much of what's gone wrong in the ME can be attributed to Bush's decision to invade Iraq and Obama's decision not to seek a status of forces agreement which would have maintained a residual force in that region. And it would be reasonable to say that the guy that's been in charge for the past 7 years does bear some res;possibility for the current state of affairs in the ME; wouldn't you agree?

Obama said that they have contained ISIS from taking anymore territory in Iraq which is a big difference from what the conservative media is reporting.
