San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

To all the gun nutz out there, whose only response when these shootings happen is "praying for them and their families".

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

It’s always been amazing to me how someone can just shoot people you have never seen in their life, taking them away from people that love then and saw them everyday
And to make matter worst they don’t care about what they have done to others.  Just amazing to me

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

Republicans think they can fix everything that's happening in the Middle East and everywhere else around the world, they have no plan for what's happening in this country, they're perfectly alright with the status quo.  Their only answer is for everyone to have a gun on them, go back to the wild west.  Lets fix our own country, then stick our noses into everyone else's problems.  Is this kind of behavior becoming a sport, I think video games play at least a part in this, just killing innocent people!  It's scary how many evil people there are in this world.

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

Back in the day, kids played games like Cowboys and Indians, Cops and Robbers, etc.
The difference then was that kids seemed to realize that they were games, not something to be carried out in real life.

Although, I must say, in most parts of the country, Indians....sorry, Native Americans, weren't exactly thick on the ground; Still aren't.

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

This is not about guns! This is about terrorism!  These people had bombs, explosives. Even if they had no guns, they were out to kill people.

Evidently, according to CBS News, neighbors noted suspicious behavior with several Middle Eastern men coming & going in the dead couple's residence, but dared not say anything lest they be accused of being racist or Islamophobic.

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

It's absolutely about guns. No other country has the level of gun violence that the US has. Mass shootings are an every day event. Stricter gun regulation is something that the public overwhelmingly are in favor of, yet it never happens because the NRA's huge purse controls so many politicians.

Mental health reform, stricter gun laws, more inclusive and uniform background checks, etc...these are all important parts of the solution.  These guns were bought legally. Can anyone tell me why anyone needs more than one "long gun"? The four guns they had were only part of their arsenal. It should be illegal for ayone to amass an arenal of any kind. It's completely out of control and ignoring the role that guns play is not going to make it go away. Glorifying the culture is a big part of the problem. No one glorifies assault rifles like the GOP politicians. Let's cook some bacon with my gun and post it online because that isn't adding to the problem at all.

The GOP needs to take ownership of the gun culture they feed, and listen to the citizens of the country who say in poll after poll that they overwhelmingy want stricter gun laws.

Otherwise it's going to be those of us in Canada who need a wall.

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

I have no problem with stricter gun laws. Dont understand why anyone would. But the Democrats need to take ownership of the politically correct climate they feed so that people aren't afraid of being labeled racist or Islamaphobic.

I think those are just ridiculous right wing talking points. I have never heard anyone on the left say not to report or speak out if you see something suspicious, whether it be a white kid hanging out outside a movie theatre or a Muslim having a lot of strange traffic at their place at weird hours. No one on the left has ever suggested that you shouldn't speak out, or labelled anyone with a legit concern as islamaphobic.

It's just a a tactic the right uses to deflect from the gun control issue. And as far as mental health, what suggestions have the GOP brought to the floor regarding mental health reform? They won the mid term two years ago. What's the hold up if they really think that's the issue? It's just a distraction because they know their fringe base wants their assault rifle collections.

This, my friends, is the real issue:

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

The spin that the right is trying to get going here is just sad. How is someone who calls in an anonymous tip going to be called a racist? Ridiculous and completely fase narrative created to divert attention from gun control...again.

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

They also had loads of explosives, so why give these radical Muslims a free pass by blaming guns?

Hi Campbell.
So what about the PP shootings?
An uber religious, homegrown terrorist who opens fire on people who are simply doing their jobs or exercising their legal rights.

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

Our ruling

A viral image says the number of Americans killed by terrorism in the last decade is 24, while the number of Americans killed by guns in the last decade is 280,024.

The creators of the image, told us they only counted lives lost to domestic jihadist attacks, though the image doesn’t specify that. If we look at deaths due to all extremist attacks on U.S. soil, the number goes up to 71.

A more accurate count for gun deaths between 2005 and 2015 is 301,797.Though the image’s numbers are slightly off, that doesn’t undercut the point: guns have claimed many more lives than terrorist attacks. We rate the claim Mostly True.

How many of the people that were murdered or injured were done so by explosives?

It was guns that killed them so it seems logical to discuss guns.

If they had been killed & injured by explosives, I'm sure people would be discussing them...No pass & no blaming imo....just focusing on what actually happened.

Did the PP shooter have explosives, did the shooters in Aurora, Charleston, Newtown, Oak Creek,  Washington DC, or the daily shootings in cities like Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Atlanta or any other gun related shooting across America have explosives?

If you want to have a discussion about explosives......fine..because in my mind, NOTHING should get a pass.... But acting like the presence of explosives invalidates the use of assault weapons & massive amounts of ammunition & doesn't warrant a discussion makes no sense to me. .

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

Donald the Trump says the shootings will help his poll numbers.

Donald Trump managed to find a silver lining in the murder of 14 people in San Bernardino, California, retweeting a fan’s tweet saying that his poll numbers would go up as a result.

Here’s a screenshot of the tweet, in case he decides to delete it and blame an intern.

Re: San Bernardino: Just Another Day In America

On CNN tonight I've seen interviews with the neighbours who lived on either side of the suspects. Each of them said they didn't suspect a thing and thought they were just a regular, polite couple. I kept waiting to hear about all this supsicious activity that everyone was afraid to report. Didn't happen.

well said, SEC. Of course, it's about guns. What else does so much damage here so frequently! Just this week alone.... to deny it's about guns ( at least in part) is stupid. No offense to Campbell intended.

Hi SEC, great to see you back!!

I agree with you and don't think these mass murders are getting a free pass by blaming guns. You are right, it is logical to discuss gun control particularly assault weapons & massive amounts of ammunition.

Right now these two are mass murders killing innocent people with assault weapons. Although many feel they were radical terrorists we really don't know that for sure. Only the FBI can prove this based on their ongoing investigation and we should wait for this to conclude. Many things point towards terrorism and it cannot be ruled out however, it would behove us to wait for the FBI to complete their investigation.

If it is concluded that this was an act of terrorism (the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims) the US then needs to decide what to do about it including retaliation.
