FYI to Nip

Claim: There were 162 mass shootings under President Obama, compared to 20 under President George W. Bush and 23 under President Bill Clinton.

FALSE

Origins: In December 2015, a chart purportedly showing the number of mass shootings under the last five United States presidents began circulating online. The claim that there were 162 mass shootings under President Obama and 23 or less during the presidential terms of his predecessors was first posited by the web site TruthStreamMedia.com on 2 December 2015. The website provided a PDF of its data as well as links to the various sources used to compile the information.

he sources provided by TruthStreamMedia.com, however, did not back up their claim that there had been 162 mass shootings under President Obama.

Mother Jones had 25 mass shootings recorded during Obama's term, Wikipedia had no "postal killings" recorded since Obama took office, and the list of "Mass Shootings In The United States By Year" had 47 recorded between 2009 and 2015.

Many of the incidents recorded on Wikipedia's list of "Mass Shootings In The United States By Year" also appear on Mother Jones' list of mass shootings, resulting in a number much lower than 162.

TruthStreamMedia.com fudged its numbers by loosening its definition of "mass shootings" to include domestic murders while collecting data for President Obama but exclude similar instances for his predecessors.

For example, one entry under President Obama lists "Ervin Lupoe." Lupoe killed his wife and five kids in 2009 but this incident was not listed by Wikipedia or Mother Jones because it was not classified as a "mass shooting"

Hey Dolly..... They are clueless over there. Yes, I peeked.  They are still writing about Hillary's emails and getting great pleasure from Trump's most recent racist speech. It would be funny if the ramifications were not so dangerous.

I hate to paint groups with a broad brush, but except for a few, they're either 'stunod' or 'capa tosta'.

And I mean that in the kindest possible way.

Re: FYI to Nip

Facts do not matter to Trump fans. Nothing can permeate the bubble.

I just saw a panel of Trump supporters on CNN with Carol Costello. She presented them with facts to show that some of the things Trump has said are lies. They just blinked at her like robots and then proceeded to make excuses and say "well, I think he meant this..and Obama is bad!!!" It was like watching members of a cult or an extreme religion. You can totally see how some famous dictators in the past got into power with that kind of unwavering blind support and disregard for the truth.

Honestly, I don't think it's either.  By in large, the most prolific posters are living in the right wing bubble.  They don't believe anything that does not come from their "trusted" sources.  For instance, their sources tell them that DT story about seeing thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrating on 911 is correct. Even though, it's been determined by every mainstream news source as being totally false.  I honestly believe they have made a conscious decision that if "their" sources say something is a fact, then it does not matter that any other information is available.

Re: FYI to Nip

"Cult" is the perfect word to describe them, and it is scary.  They're getting what they deserve in Donald Trump, he is the new face of the Republican party, I really believe the majority would never vote for someone so uninformed and racist.  I have more faith in the American people than that, he is an embarrassment to this country.  It says a lot that he has their support.

Re: FYI to Nip

I hope you are right. But who would have thought Trump would have lasted this long? It is the lesser educated American that is considering to vote for him. And thanks to the high cost of education in this country, many Americans fall into that boat.

Re: FYI to Nip

Obama is the "Liar in Chief".

Obama has ruined this country. None of our allies respect us anymore.

Israel is our closest ally in the ME and Obama has thrown them under the bus.

Obama has divided this country.....

Oh Yeah?

Trump isn't and won't ever be president and yet in a matter of days he has managed to offend Germany, saying Chancellor Merkel is crazy for taking in Syrian refugees.

The UK is debating whether or not to ban him from entering their country.

His trip to Israel has been cancelled.

The Neo-Nazis are supporting him???

Re: FYI to Nip

I am really embarrassed of my country ATM. Trump, Scalia, Carson, Rubio, Fiorina & most of the rest are straight up liars feeding on the fears of voters. It is absolutely disheartening to watch my fellow citizens to not only become accepting of blatant lies, but to knowingly perpetuate these lies. These aren't little white lies. The lies they are selling have been proven to be dangerous. Why these ppl get away with inciting violence & death are not being held responsible for their words. Someone in the media needs to hold their feet to the fire, because clearly the Republican voting base never will. It is complete bs & everyone knows it, even those supporting these racist, xenophobic bigots!

I will not kneel before Zod.
