Time To Answer My "Fan Mail"

Dear Dolly,

They had one of those Top 20 lists on yahoo.  I like to look at those every once in a while.  The one I saw today had the 20 least intelligent Presidents. It was based on IQ's and of course the headlines said that George W. Bush was among those listed along with George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, Ronald Reagan, Bush Sr., Eisenhower, Truman, Coolidge, and many more.  The IQ's ranged from mid 130's to 120.  Bush jr was 124 I think.  Then I looked up Obama's IQ and I saw two different answers.  One was 115 and the other was 124.  So why wasn't he on the list?  If its 115 he was less than everyone else on the list.  LOL

Signed,
Ramblin' Rose, a fan from Texas

Dear Ramblin'
Hope all is well in the Lone Star state, now that Governor Abbott has managed to foil Jade Helm 15, Obama's master plan to take over Texas.

As to your question concerning the IQs of presidents, I say thank you for bringing this up as it is a serious question (despiet your LOL) that deserves extensive research from reliable sources which I will be happy to provide.

RR, I'm afraid, as the young ones say,  you've been "punked".
If it is any consolation, you're not the only one .
None the less, it happened and you deserve the whole story.

I will start and perhaps finish with one of the most accurate and reliable sources on truth.

Snopes.com
December 13, 2015

Claim: President Obama achieved the lowest IQ score among all U.S. presidents of the last 100 years.

FALSE

Origin:
On 12 December 2015, Empire News published an article positing that President Obama had achieved the lowest score of any U.S. president since IQ testing of American chief executives began back in 1913:As it turns out, the Republicans may have been right all along, and President Obama is not the smartest person in the room after all. Since Woodrow Wilson took office in 1913, all presidents have been given an IQ test at some point during their time as leader. Gerald Ford always held the record for lowest score, with a 111, which is considered just slightly above average. On the other end of the spectrum, George W. Bush scored a 132, which is considered 'gifted.' Two-Thirds of people who take the standardized IQ test score between 85-115.

The White House today spun President Obama's 102 as a 'solid average' that is nothing to be ashamed of."President Obama never claimed to be smarter than anybody else.

As a matter as fact, he has always represented himself as a regular guy, 'a man of the people,' as it were," said Josh Earnest, White House Press Secretary.

"The key to being a good leader is to surround yourself with smart people, which President Obama has always done.

As far as needing to be a genius to run the country, well — George W. Bush had the highest score ever, and look at how that mess turned out.

So, the next time President Obama bypasses congress with an executive order, and you're about to say something cruel, racist, or otherwise completely ignorant, remember that he's just a regular guy getting things done for you. And hey! At least he's in the triple digits!"

But of course, nothing about the article was true. U.S. presidents are not routinely administered IQ tests, and the story was merely another piece of fake news from Empire News, a site that creates outrageously fictional clickbait stories in order to lure readers into generating advertising revenue for them. The site's disclaimer notes that:
Empire News is intended for entertainment purposes only. Our website and social media content uses only fictional names, except in cases of public figure and celebrity parody or satirization.

I hope I've answered your question and thank you for your ongoing interest.

Re: Time To Answer My "Fan Mail"

My next comment is from a cranky corespondent who admittedly relies on one source for her information, not a good idea possums.

Dear Dolly,
I always wondered where you find the crap you post.
I honestly believe you make up half the stuff you post and your (legion of) followers are dumb enough to believe you.
Signed,
Sweating and Old

Dear S and O,
Hang in there!
At you're age the sweating (and your sex life) should be over. The "I'm always cold" mode should kick in any day now.

As for my sources for what I post.

Unlike Sarah Palin, I read constantly and I can name the newspapers, magazines and books, I read without crying about it being a "gotcha' question.

I start my day browsing through our local newspaper, paying special attention to page 2 (obituaries).

I then move on to the NY Times, which is delivered promptly at 6:00AM  by a handsome young fellow named Travis, who hopes someday to graduate from medical school and open a practice dedicated to geriatric proctology.
Burgo and I have promised to be his first patients.

From the written page I move on to the World Wide Web.

I proceed to bookmark's and then Dolly's Favorites.

First stop: Huffington Post.
Followed by (in strict order):
Wonkette
Mediaite
Media Matters
Think Progress
TPM
RawStory
Crooks and Liars
DailyKos
DemocraticUnderground
Politico
Newscorpse
Newshounds (They watch FOX so we don't have to.)
The Maddow Blog
The Atlantic
The LA Times
The Washington Post

So there it is.....

Thank you for your interest.
Don't be a stranger.

Thank you Monkey. Withdrawal is a b*tch. This too will pass.

I'd be happy to share that " big ole truth" I've failed to share.

Perhaps a hint as to what "big ole truth" you're referring to???

I know it can't be the "big ole truth" that you suckered people to come on you're board pretending to be "Peg O' My Heart" when you're really "Lady Macbeth".

It certainly isn't the "big ole' truth" that after you banned people without a single warning or an explanation, you gave out a fake e-mail for those who were banned to inquire why they were banned. Everyone knows that.

All I can say is ask and I will tell.

Re: Time To Answer My "Fan Mail"

Morning possums,

My latest query comes from a reader who finds herself in a very difficult situation.
How to tell a friend she's delusional without hurting her feelings.

Dear Dolly,
I"m not exaggerating when I tell you I've read every one of your posts since you arrived on the the original VMB.
You've helped me see the light on so many issues: politics, religion, social issues, etc..
From you I've discovered a world totally foreign to me; a world of fine food, travel, dressing tastefully and finding the right "look".

Would you believe it if I told you I never knew how to set a proper table until you explained it so beautifully?
Unfortunately, the dilema I'm facing today is much more complex.

I have a circle of on-line friends, some ( like myself) happily married for many years,  some spinsters and the rest, widows.
We sometimes buck heads, but we always kiss and make up so to speak.

Lately, I've noticed one member of our group, Azaria (not her real name) has gone slightly "off the beam".
She seems to think cyber space is reality.

Back in the fall, she decided to open a "bar"; not a real bar mind you, a pretend bar.
She expected us to "socialize" there, sipping pretend cocktails, "playing" pool.

At first, everyone thought it was a joke and played along.
One thing led to another and as the holidays approached, she issued invitations to a "party"; actually asked us to check our calendars to find a convenient date so everyone could "be there".

"Guests" would bring a dish to pass and exchange "Secret Santa" gifts; there was even talk of "live" entertainment.

That's when I started getting e-mails from concerned members of our group.

Esther was first "This is no longer funny" followed shortly after by Millie asking whether or not Azaria had family and if anyone knew how to contact them.

Celeste said she remembered Azaria talking about a son Kenny, but what if he was just a figment of her imagination?

Dolly, I'm at sixes and sevens over this.

Should we just cut her off? That seems cruel.
Play along? That could worsen the situation.

If ever your wisdom was needed, it's now.

Your Friend,
Geneva

Dear Geneva,
Thank you for your kind words.
If I've helped you in even the smallest way, consider it both my duty and my pleasure.

Geneva, what you're going through is not uncommon. Before the days of social media we met our friends face to face; school, our workplace, church groups or through mutual friends.
We got to know them in a way that's impossible in this new world of anonymity.

How can you trust someone you meet on line to be who they claim to be and whether or not they're on the up and up?

The short answer is, you can't.

Azaria is obviously enjoying being part of your circle.
Is she delusional, lonely or just having her little joke?

Since you can't really be sure, why not just humor her?

It costs so little to be kind and maybe being her cyber friends is what keeps her going.
Let me know what you decide.
As Always,
Dolly
