oh, Steve Harvey!

Steve Harvey hosted the Miss Universe pageant and announced the wrong winner!  This will be following him for the rest of his life: "oh, yeah, Steve Harvey...he's the one that announced the wrong winner in that pageant, isn't he?"

Unfortunately, the woman who thought she won must be devastated and the one who actually won probably has mixed feelings about the way it all happened.  What a mess!

I feel sorry for all concerned.
The two contestants mostly, but Steve Harvey too.
Whether it was just an honest mistake or if he or the producers of the show messed up badly, he will be remembered for the gaffe.

Re: oh, Steve Harvey!

yeah...but someone had an interesting twist on the story....that the loser will get some play out of this and might wind up in better shape than the winner. she may get jobs based on pity....get positive pr out of it and who knows.
I think harvey will survive just fine. people make mistakes and his fans are the forgiving kind. people like him because he is a decent guy. (I know vantro doesn't like him based on a couple of posts about him long ago but he is quite popular).

Re: oh, Steve Harvey!

Hi zeke.

Does anyone really care who becomes Miss Universe or what she has to say?

These pageants are beyond passe.

They're a part of the past and demeaning to women.

Bathing suits and high heels in 2015... seriously?

Smile, 1975.

Re: oh, Steve Harvey!

I agree about the pagents, Dolly. Haven't women progressed enough to not want to be judged on "beauty"? I guess not all women feel the same but it does seem passe to me.

I felt bad for the women, but Screw Steve Harvey. The man is horrible. Too bad he didn't get fired.

I did like Steve Harvey but I have read some things about the sexist things he says.  Is that why you don't like him Vantro?

It's sad to say Sam, but the majority of the women who are in these pageants have nothing but their looks to go on.
Consider the answers they give to questions they're asked.

The man is a homophobic bigot that hates everything nonchristian. He called all atheists idiots with no moral barometer. Ntm he is fairly dumb. Don't take my word for it just look at his opinion regarding evolution. He is one of those deniers that claims the, "if we evolved from monkeys then why are there still monkeys?". Pretty friggin' ignorant. Ppl like him are happy being closed minded & blissfully ignorant. Makes life easier for them I suppose.

Re: oh, Steve Harvey!

Yes. Harvey is small-town mentality. However while not defending his fears (gays, strong women, atheists, and probably more) I can't go with the dumb thing. I see ignorance to be different from being dumb.
I've known other men like Harvey. He has the capacity to change and that is what is needed with the Harvey's of the world. They need change.
(Just my thing. I hate the word dumb. Had a sister who used to call everybody dumb dumbs.)

BTW. Harvey has been invited back for next year. He will host Miss Universe 2016.

Sam, I agree. The pageants are passé but I think the women do it for the money.
It's always about the money.

I would like to know why you think he's a horrible person.   He's a Christian man who works very hard to help youth by sponsoring mentoring camps for young men.  He also encourages women to demand better treatment from men, lead a positive life, and respect themselves.

Why should Steve be fired?   He made an honest mistake and apologized for it.  It's just a stupid beauty contest that few people watch.  Now, the show has more publicity from this error than they ever would have received.  Most on social media are saying they didn't even know the show was still taking place.  Anyway, it's not like Steve was a doctor and operated on the wrong person. Steve Harvey has a successful tv talk show, radio show, and hosts Family Feud.  He has two books that have done well, movies, and his sitcoms are re-run daily.  Steve is returning to host the 2016 Miss Universe so I guess it doesn't matter what his critics say.

Vantro, Would you mind providing some clarification of your viewpoint? I never heard Steve's view on evolution.  But, if he made the comment you cited about monkeys still being here, that makes perfect sense to me.  If people evolved from monkeys. why would monkeys continue to only produce monkeys.  And, if people came from monkeys. why are people producing human children?  I've never heard him say anything bigoted or homophobic.  Comedians say things that most of us would not say and some people take those comments too seriously. I would like to know what comments you are talking about.  When you say he is narrow-minded and ignorant because he has views different from you, how is that any different from what you are saying about him.

Hi Zeke,
I'm rather surprised that you think Steve Harvey has "small town mentality."  What does that mean, in your opinion?  Also, what personal changes do you think he needs to make?  He admits he has come a long way in his life and attributes that positive change to his faith and his wife. He seems to be admired by a wide range of people from many socio-economic groups.  He has a reported networth of 100 million dollars. That's quite an achievement for someone with a small town mentality.  I'm just wondering what your perception is of the "Steve Harveys" of the world because  I value your opinion on things.

Sara I clarified why I am not a Steve Harvey fan in my response to Sam. I never said he should have been fired. I said too bad he was not fired. I actually think it was staged for publicity.

Zeke you are correct about dumb vs ignorant. Harvey chooses to be ignorant.

Re: oh, Steve Harvey!

Just to clarify evolution does not suggest we evolved from monkeys, so that is why Harvey is ignorant, but it hasn't stopped him from giving his mean spirited uninformed opinion regarding it.  When he called all atheists idiots he was not doing comedy. It was in an interview & he was dead serious. I called him dumb based on his words, not his beliefs, so yeah that makes me different.

Yes, it is me.  Sara from the View Board.  Why is it I cannot post without being accussed of being someone else.  That's one of the reasons I don't post.  You all don't seem to want legitimate posts or conversations.  Actually, I PM Dori on a daily basis, but don't post because nobody seems to want a real dialogue.

Thanks Vantro.  I have to disagree with you on this one.  He has the right to think atheists are idiots if that's what he believes.  Just as you have the right to believe he is ignorant for not agreeing with your lifestyle.

I agree with you Dolly in feeling sorry for Steve.  He was visibly upset when he came to the stage to apologize.  He was embarrassed and also seemed to be genuinely sad for the two women.   People will remember his gaffe, but I'm sure his PR people will find a way to use it to his advantage in terms of how he is perceived.   The more jokes made about it, the more publicity for all concerned.  Ms. Columbia is probably a hero in her country from this.

OH NO!!! Not on Christmas Eve!...First it was zurich moon and now Sara too????
Wow...get a life already 'view'.....we're on to you, even if others aren't.

And zeke....Have a beautiful Christmas...give your granddaughter an extra hug from me!!

And, as far as the mishap with the wrong contestant....these are supposedly educated women...get a real job and stop showing yourselves off as pieces of meat.  And, as far as Steve Harvey....oh well...what can I say that hasn't already been said..

Enjoy your holiday everyone...do something positive for others...you will feel better.
