GOP Drama Queens

Here is a partial list of demands many GOP candidates want before the next debate.

  • Will there be questions from the audience or social media? How many? How will they be presented to the candidates? Will you acknowledge that you, as the sponsor, take responsibilities for all questions asked, even if not asked  by your personnel?
  • Will there be a gong/buzzer/bell when time is up? How will the moderator enforce the time limits?
  • Will you commit that you will not:

    • Ask the candidate to raise their hands to answer a question
    • As yes/no questions without time to provide a substantive answer
    • Allow candidate-to-candidate questioning
    • Allow props or pledges by the candidates
    • Have reaction shots of members of the audience or moderators during debates
    • Show an empty podium after a break (describe how far away the bathrooms are)
    • Use behind shots of the candidates showing their notes
    • Leave microphones on during the breaks
    • Allow members of the audience to wear political messages (shirts, buttons, signs, etc.). Who enforces?

  • What instructions will you provide the audience about cheering during the debate?
  • What are your plans for the lead-in to the debate (Pre-shot video? Announcer to moderator? Director to Moderator?) and how long is it?
  • Can you pledge that the temperature in the hall be kept below 67 degrees?

Re: GOP Drama Queens

From: The Onion

Here are the GOP’s demands for upcoming debates:

  • All moderators to be quarantined from society 18 months prior to debate to eliminate bias
  • Statute of limitations prohibiting questioning candidate about any statements made more than 60 seconds in the past
  • Mechanized, continuously rotating debate stage gives every candidate equal time at center podium
  • No questions from, for, or about women
  • At least one tray of pigs in a blanket during pre-debate luncheon
  • All questions must be prefaced with personalized compliment about candidate’s policies or appearance
  • One consequence-free tirade against any marginalized group of each candidate’s choosing
  • Rule stating that any participant thrown off stage by another candidate automatically disqualified from presidential campaign
  • Safe podium space for all candidates made uncomfortable by line of questioning
  • Multiple-choice section
  • Each candidate given five paper DebateBucks they can use at any time to buy new questions from the moderator
  • When a candidate A causes the debate ball to go out of play, candidate B will start at the top of the key and check the ball before resuming play
  • Every candidate allowed to deliver five minutes of closing personal attacks

President Obama:Speaking about candidates' big talk about handling Vladimir Putin, he said, “They say, when I talk to Putin, he’s going to straighten out. And then it turns out they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators.”“If you can’t handle those guys, I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you,” the President concluded.

This is too funny. This coming from a man who blames cable news for political polarization & refused a Fox News debate in 2007.

Poor Obama........he's so blissfully unaware & can't comprehend a bit of nuance. The Reps never said they coudn't handle them. They were complaining the mods were rude, unprofessional & asked idiotic questions. The mods deserved all the criticism they got from Reps, Dems, journalists. The CNBC mods did accomplish the impossible.........they had me rooting for all the candidates on stage........and I don't even like any of them!

Re: GOP Drama Queens

That's pretty much what Rick Santorum said.

The guy who has a filthy, disgusting sex act named after him.
It's called the Santorum Super Tuesday Surprise.

By the way, how many elections has he won lately?

Re: GOP Drama Queens

Okay, I thought the reason the debate was such a disaster was because I was under the impression since the panel was comprised of CNBC mods that they would be moderating a forum about the economy and business. Instead those 3 idiots asked belittling & snarky questions like Trump running a comic book campaign and, among other things, fantasy football. Now I think the Reps demands for future debates is a bit ridiculous.

Geez, all they need is to demand to get mods that don't show such obvious contempt for Reps and ask questions that might reasonably influence someone's vote whether for or against. No more dopey questions like…….."what did you think when Trump said this about whatever?" Just ask for approval of choice of mods and agreement on what policy subjects will be addressed and stick to those subjects. Any other demands are, frankly, absurd.

Re: GOP Drama Queens

Seems to me that Hillary got plenty of tough questions from AC. I do not see her complaining nor is she demanding special treatment.

Like President Obama said, if you can't handle some "tough questions" from CNBC moderators then how are you going to deal with Vladimir Putin?

Re: GOP Drama Queens

Here were just few questions Hilary received from the Democratic CNN Debate.:

The Cooper questions:

  • "You were against same-sex marriage, now you're for it. You defended President Obama's immigration policies, now you say they're too harsh. You supported his trade deal dozens of times, you even called it 'the gold standard,' now suddenly last week you're against it. Will you say anything to get elected?"
  • "You are going to be testifying before Congress next week about your emails. For the last eight months, you haven't been able to put this issue behind you. You dismissed it. You joked about it. You called it a mistake. What does that say about your ability to handle far more challenging crises as president?"
  • "In all candor, you and your husband are part of the 1%. How can you credibly represent the views of the middle class?"
  • "You spearheaded the 'reset' with Russia. Did you underestimate the Russians? And as president, what would your response to Vladimir Putin be right now in Syria?"
  • "What would you do for African-Americans in this country that President Obama couldn't?"
  • "Do you change your political identity based on who you're talking to?"

I don't consider any of these questions "soft balls" by the so called "liberal media"  I also don't recall Hillary whining about the debate moderators.  The Republican candidates seem to have a problem with the moderators from every debate they have. The Republican feigning "victim" of the liberal media is getting really old and beyond ridiculous.
